As someone who doesn't usually connect with modern Trek, I've really been enjoying Academy and Life Of The Stars was one of my favorite Trek episodes of all time. Not many Trek episodes have made me cry like a little girl.

Disco was blessed with a bunch of very talented actors, but constantly plagued with terrible writing. It was lovely to see Wiseman on Academy.

From what I've seen this show seems more like Discovery than classic Trek. Having Tilly show up confirms that for me. That's a no thanks from me.

Sure, if it makes you feel better to call me that. I just don't care for the direction Trek went with Discovery. I do like SNW though.

That quote is funny. I'm pretty sure she meant can't not can. But yes, I can work those things out and don't need to put them on others. I'm not sure why saying I don't like a specific character would make you assume otherwise. That's a massive jump to a conclusion.

It was in the hot feed... It's not like I did a ton of "wandering". One post is hardly "loudly" declaring anything. What's louder is all the people jumping to conclusions about who I am as a person and as a fan from the one comment.

@ValueSubtracted Tilly seemed very much autistic coded... which I like to be honest. I like that neurodiversity is being seen - especially in Trek. Tilly being in a leadership role is awesome. It challenges the stigma of us being problematic in a leadership position. :3

No, I think you forgot about the people are allowed to have differing opinions about things rule. Generally I love Trek. I did not like Discovery or Picard (I did hear Picard got better in later episodes), but I like everything else. The character Tilly was one of the specific things I didn't like about Discovery. Life isn't a weird dichotomy where people love or hate everything. People aren't only super fans or toxic fans. There is a wide swatch of people in between. As a Trek fan I would think you would be especially aware of all the gray area in between. I don't know what drives you to attack me as a person for stating an opinion on a fictional character... I hope you get over that some day.

Discovery. She was a constant MVP in that from her first appearance.

aside from being a great episode of Academy, this episode was also a perfect coda to Discovery. Tilly got to be the person she needed back in the day

Well it's a different show with different writers and she isn't playing the timid and anxious character she was in early Discovery.

Nope, I've seen others and have seen reviews. But, you just made another assumption about me.

Her being timid wasn't really the part of her character I didn't like. The fact that she was timid was her only character flaw was what made her a week character. Like she never struggled other than to accept that she was capable of doing things.

AFAICT it's literally one single user carpet bombing the thread with their inane opinions sifted from the YT outrage machine. I blocked them immediately, and abracadabra. Everything else is a Tilly love fest.

Yeah, that’s a great question. It’s tricky, because a lot of times in acting, you want to kind of give what you receive. And so I felt like what I needed to hold, and what I was reminded of by the director and Alex and everybody involved, is that she’s affected by by this and what this girl is going through and how this girl is responding to her, but also, she’s in a position now where she’s a teacher and responsible for this cadet, and needs to hold things together to guide her through this really difficult experience, which was a really fun thing to play, and really the dynamic in the playing of it was how to empathize with her and receive what Tarima was experiencing and going through and try to steer the ship where I thought it needed to go in order for her to move through this experience and heal and be able to come out better on the other end.

I would accept obnoxious. I don't think it is obnoxious to add a comment to a forum, but I understand that viewpoint. I just think it's a far way from toxic.

Let’s understand the word “toxic” though. We use the word “toxic” when a relationship or subject has become so radioactive that anything going into it comes out bad, even if innocently intended. Hating on Tilly is pretty toxic now, following an overwhelming amount of pointless hate online. You didn’t create that entire cloud of toxicity with one comment. No one could. But you walked into it. If you just want to innocently express your distaste for this character, you should probably be mad at all the people who made that impossible by flooding the dialogue with mean, stupid hate. Because at this point, making an unqualified swipe at her has gone toxic. If you have something meaningful and critical to say, say it. If you just want to make a jab, yeah, I’m afraid that is toxic now. You can claim you didn’t know, etc but you gotta read the room as it were. Or the room will spell itself out for you, as happened here.

Nah, I can be mad at the toxic people and the people over reacting. Both are too extreme reactions to each other.
