Dad here, I think my kids know I'll 100% hit them with that of they come out as gay, they know they'll be accepted, but will have to go through that

I was just thinking of how one could phrase things to deny you that opportunity, but I decided that nah, if I were your kid, I'd let you have your fun. I'd also see if my siblings(s) wanted to take bets on whether you would do it or not (or more likely, how you would do it — would it be an immediate gleeful response, or would you look mildly pained for a moment as you attempt to suppress the urge?). What are siblings for if not this?

I know a few people who came out to their family as being on the ace-spectrum. It can be a useful way of getting family off your back about when you're going to settle down with someone. Someone who's gray-ace might be more likely to have a partner than someone who just identifies as asexual, but many of ace-spec folk with partners might not necessarily do relationships that are easily legible to cisheteronormative society.

One friend, for instance, came out as ace because they were also coming out as poly. They had been living together stably with their partner and their partner's partner for a few years, and their mom had assumed that the other two people in a household were in a couple. However, at one point when visiting, she picked up on the romantic vibe between my friend and their partner, despite them trying to appear just like friends, and she later asked my friend if they were having an affair with their partner (and told them she would strongly disapprove if so, because their partner's other partner was a lovely person who didn't deserve to be cheated on).
