Who was the more effective striker for Arsenal: Gyökeres or Podolski? They remind me of each-other. Both could be a good "fox in the box", but neither was any good at holding the ball up. But, Podolski wasn't quite good enough for an Arsenal team that was trying to break into the top 2. |

This team is looking more and more mentally tired. |

Ooh, that's an interesting question. I feel like Gyokeres' hold-up play is okay (not great, but not bad). Better than Podolski's. And Viktor is better at getting into dangerous areas inside the area. But Lukas had that cannon of a foot on him and could blast the odd rocket in from outside the area. |

That's the thing that worries me the most. Not the injuries. We have a very deep squad now with tons of quality. But the mental buckling... That's what worries me. There's great mental strength and desire in the squad. But there's also a thick thread of anxiety, and maybe a bit of lack of belief. |

I think Gyokeres' hold up play is about typical for a winger but pretty poor for a striker. He's physically strong enough to battle defenders, but even when he wins possession he's rarely able to make a good pass after that. |

To me, the issue is that, despite the big squad, there are a few positions where the team can't really be rotated. While Odegard is out, Eze has to start. With both Merino and Odegaard out and Nwaneri out on loan, it's hard to find a way to rest Rice and Zubimendi. With Ben White out, Timber doesn't get a rest. It may actually have been a good thing that earlier this season Saliba and Gabriel were injured, because it forced Arteta into using Mosquera and Hincapie, who are now fully trusted and used often. So, I'm less worried about the defenders. It's more central midfield where things look troubled. |

A 7 point gap, with a 6-pointer against City on the horizon. Also, 10 days before Arsenal plays another Premier League game. That's excellent. |

Hey, it was only about 85 minutes, plus 7 minutes extra between the goal and the final whistle, most of that was pretty squeaky, IMO. |

Yeah that’s a genuine bonus I hope the team looks at this and gets a much needed lift out of it. I agree with the mentality and belief concerns, I think that’s partly what’s making us default into trying to control a game rather than kill it off. We’re not backing ourselves. Even tonight, you saw Brighton back themselves and have a go. There was one pass downfield along the sideline from a Brighton player late in the game, straight along the line for 40 metres, over their head and landed on a 20c piece. That’s the shit we’re up against. |
