You don't need to take a bad metaphor literally for it to pollute your perspective of the world, to argue otherwise is to deny the basic function of metaphors. |

That being said, some parts of the brain are absolutely related to distinct functions. But if the brain retains enough plasticity it can adapt to damage or even total loss of regions, which is fascinating! Edit: meant to reply to the post, not your comment. Oh well. Hissss..... |

Based on this response, I will not only continue to feed my brain microplastics to help retain plasticity, I will now also ramp up consumption! |

I doubt the human brain differs significantly from a donkey brain. |

I don't know that I agree with this. I've used the term 'lizard brain' a lot, but I had no idea it was rooted in this study. I just assumed it meant a more primitive train of thought, particularly one in a state of panic. It's obviously important to dispel misconceptions if you have them, but I don't think saying 'a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush' is going to irreparably alter someone's idea of economics just because the value of birds doesn't literally match the metaphor. |

Details vary from person to person. |

Yes but quite literally I don't think the general architecture and setup of a donkey brain is that different than a human brain. Sure there are differences of course but I would be very surprised if there was anything radically different. |

As the article states, it was much more than just a metaphor, and more of a 'here's our current understanding' thing. And plenty of people took that seriously IME. |
