Dug is my godfather so I grew up on a steady diet of this band, up through Ear Candy. Though they were one of my favorite bands, I haven’t listened to them in years, other than occasional Dogman. When I started building a record collection, nostalgia was a big factor, so I resolved to make sure these albums which were so formative to me a part of my collection. The biggest surprise re-acquainting myself with the music is, not only is it as fucking great as I remember, there’s so much more for my more mature ears to appreciate. I am certainly biased by a loose familial connection, but I think these guys are an incredibly underrated band, even for the industry respect they get for influencing bigger bands. Their sound is so unique, heavy, soulful, Beatlesque, and still proggy. |
