What is currently holding us from stocking energy in form of hydrogen, from wind/solar/...?

Wouldn't a hydrogen thermal power plant be more affordable than a nuclear one?

Where can I found global info on the subject?

Efficiency in the conversion process, both ways, and the energy cost of producing the pure water necessity for the process.
