The National Women’s Soccer League season begins this Friday, but the teams aren’t quite finished making moves.

The Seattle Reign and Chicago Stars FC have agreed to a trade that sends forward Jordyn Huitema to the Stars. In return, the Reign received $500,000 in funds — $300,000 in intra-league transfer funds and $200,000 in allocation money.

Not sure how I feel about this as a Chicago fan. Her last 2 years have been pretty quiet. I hope the new coach has a good plan for her.

I’m also not sure how I feel about this as a Reign fan. You’re right that Jordyn has had a quiet couple of years, but $500k allocation isn’t going to score any goals on its own, and I’m not sure, looking at our roster, where we think those goals are going to come from. There was at least a chance Huitema might put together a big year this year. Hopefully ownership will make a big signing here soon.

Big Fish? Is she healthy?

I think so? I’m pretty sure I saw her playing in the one preseason friendly that got aired. But the Reign haven’t had a double digit goalscorer since Pinoe had a dozen in 2017, and Mia didn’t score even once last season in 12 appearances, so I’m hesitant to put it all on her shoulders.
