What you're seeing as "everything is on the internet" is often grueling hours of journalism collated into a ten minute read. Journalism isn't just getting some info and slapping a big name on it so people believe it. It's also about confirming information, providing context, putting the information into the context so it makes sense, and so on.

Pull the rug under free journalism and suddenly the only information you find online is the state sponsored propaganda.
