I think it was a deliberate choice in order to keep the show more grounded. No androids. No aliens. No wizards. Just a struggling actor trying to keep his secret.

I do think we'll see a little bit of the wider world next season, especially since I have to imagine they're on the run now, but even then it seems like Damage Control is our big bad and we don't have any big name people working there just yet.

The two of them together were an absolute delight, I hope season 2 explains what happened to Morris.
