Regardless of the circumstances around its cancelation, the latest 'Star Trek' series has been robbed of the chance almost every other show in the franchise has been given.

I am so mad at this decision, and at all the trolls, bots and haters that influenced this outcome. Just like they did with Discovery, Picard, and Prodigy. These shows were a much needed beacon of hope in a world facing again its darkest times. These undeserving little shits managed to kill the entire franchise. I can’t believe evil and hatred has won. |

Good thing there's still a large backlog of Trek novels I haven't read yet. Not really a consolation prize or silver lining, but it's at least something. |

This is certainly true by the standards laid out, but I'm struck by the fact that the only new series that was more-or-less free of studio fuckery was Picard (which certainly had its own issues). |

I thought the first season was a terrible mess, but it definitely deserved a chance at a second season |

We're getting a 2nd season, right? They shot it but it hasn't been cut and finished yet. |

The second season has finished shooting, yes. And IIRC the cancellation announcement says the show will end after s2. But if Paramount want to really dig their heels in on hurting its audience, they could still stop post-production and write off the season like Warner did with that Batwoman show... |

I’ve been picking up old ST novels at thrift stores for $1-2. I only have a handful, but the ones I’ve read are pretty good. It’s like reading an extended episode of ST. |

Very much that. Mine are all ebooks but I'm starting to build a nice collection. Thankfully I can get most of them DRM-free so they're actually mine. Best I can tell, the publisher will release them DRM-free approx. 5 years after they're published. |

I prefer physical books myself, but I’m always ok to read an ebook if that’s how I can get a story. Do you have a preferred place to get them? There are a few that I would love to own, but a used copy is significantly too expensive. I’m looking at you A Stitch in Time by Andrew J. Robinson at over 100 bucks |

Yeah, A Stitch in Time was what started the search. Just over $100 seems like a bargain when I was seeing the used paperbacks listed over $200 on Amazon lol. So I went with the ebook copy. https://www.ebooks.com/en-us/book/136175/a-stitch-in-time/andrew-j-robinson/ I think I paid $10.99 for it last year, and it's $8.99 now. If you are interested in more, create an account and add them to your wish list. They will randomly go on sale with no notice. I got several that were normally like $12.99 for $1.99 just by catching them on sale when I checked back on my lists. I've been getting all of mine from there. If the title is available without DRM, it's noted in the listing, and you can straight-up just download a clean epub file once you've bought it. That's everything I've always wanted from an ebook store. |

Last copy I saw went on eBay for $85, I’ve never noticed it lower than $150 before that. My library has it in ebook and audiobook, but I would like a copy of my own. I downloaded one and I still want to support the author so I have no issue with buying it on sale. I will probably buy it and print it out at my library at some point because I do just prefer to read a physical copy of something. Thanks for the tips and link! |

Same. Not with A Stitch in Time but two of the PIC tie-in novels weren't available without DRM. So I bought them full price and "Rules of Acquisition'd" DRM-free versions from elsewhere. My conscience is clean. |

It’s arguably only Prodigy that has faced a similarly unfortunate fate This is certainly true by the standards laid out, but I'm struck by the fact that the only new series that was more-or-less free of studio fuckery was Picard (which certainly had its own issues).
Even then it wasn't. Chabon was hired on for a 3 season slow-burn plot about the nature of humanity and about a legacy left sullied, and he didn't even get 1/3 of the way there before they stuck interdimensional killer robots from outerspace into it for a big climax. Then they falsely lured him away from the project with a promise to produce a show on his Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Adventures of Cavalier and Clay, and shoved Matalas in there to let him do his TNG Sequel. |

I'm not convinced Ellison isn't going to shelve the rest of SFA and SNW for tax purposes at this point. It won't match up with his and Weiss's vision for Paramount/CBS. |
