If you don't know who Gamma is, he's the smart, smart fellow behind GammaOS, an alternate operating system built for a ton of retro handhelds. It is built on LineageOS to improve on nearly every aspect of the default OS which ships with handhelds.

I reached out to Gamma a fair while back about interviewing him and have since befriended him, and am pretty happy to be able to share his story on how/why he got started, and what goes into all the work he does.

If you're a fan of retro handhelds and emulation, I'm sure you'll find this interesting. I got him to specifically detail what went into his work for Anbernic's recent RG DS handheld, too

As ever, if you want to read through the interview, you can find it here:

After an article on Songo#5 that one sounded a bit dry. Maybe that's a side effect of prefering reliability over flashiness :) If there would be a second article about GammaOS, it wouldn't hurt to flesh out the process down to specific challenges the dev overcame, just anecdotes evolving while testing and fixing stuff, or talk about how community members participated in the development of said project, what opportunities Gamma sees there. And, for a really unique kind of gear I haven't heard of, I feel a bit puzzled as of what a second screen can bring onto the table when emulating single screen games, what other people came up with.

Btw, there's a small typo in the Why the LineageOS? part, in image attributions concerning Fix/Fox person's photoes.

I'm sorry you felt this wasn't quite up to standards!

Gamma's baby was born prematurely, and he had an emergency visit rushing back to the hospital throughout the time we'd set aside for this little interview, so for whatever it counts things were quite chaotic. Also, baby is home and fine now!

(And thanks! Fixed that typo!)

Maps, a useable notepad, control scheme reminder image if buttons don't match onscreen prompts, game specific companion apps, etc.
