The financial situation of Berlin-based journalist Hüseyin Doğrucontinues to deteriorate. The Frankfurt am Main Local Court has rejected an emergency application filed by the journalist, who is subject to European Union sanctions. Doğru had sought an order compelling his bank to resume processing transfers and to ease restrictions on the use of his account. The court, however, sided with the financial institution. Doğru must also bear the costs of the proceedings.

At the heart of the case was the question of whether Doğru retains the right to broader access to his bank account despite the EU sanctions imposed on him. The court answered in the negative. According to the ruling, a so-called Anordnungsanspruch(claim to injunctive relief) does not exist. Without such a claim, the legal prerequisite for intervention in expedited proceedings is already lacking: Doğru has no enforceable right to compel the bank to release the transfers he requested.

The journalist has been listed under EU sanctions since May 2025. The European Union justifies the measures by claiming that Doğru, through his pro-Palestinian journalistic work, incites “ethnic, political and religious discord” and thereby supports “destabilizing activities of Russia.” Public evidence of a concrete connection to Moscow has not been presented to date.

Doğru rejects the allegations. He confirms that he previously worked for Redfish, a media format financed by the Russian broadcaster Ruptly. However, he states that he terminated the employment relationship following Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

“I have always criticized that this was an invasion of Ukraine,” he said in November 2025 in an interview with Berliner Zeitung.
