Violet and Patty stand on the sidewalk looking at Lucy. Violet says, "You can't go to the show with us, Lucy..."

Lucy grimaces as they walk away. Violet continues, "You're too small!"

"WAA!" As Lucy starts to cry, Violet turns back and says, "Oh, now don't cry, Lucy...please..."

She stoops and hold out a tissue. She says, "You're a big girl now, and big girls don't cry...'

Trivia:

Violet sports a ponytail for the first time, also making this her first alternative hair change. Her hair style would alternate between her pigtails and ponytail until January 23, 1955 where her ponytail would become the mainstay

I never realized how much older Violet and Patty were than Lucy. I guess in the peanuts universe, children age until 6-ish and then approach 7 asymptotically?

Yeah, Schroeder seems much younger in these early strips than later as well. It's probably just easier to write daily jokes for that age range then when they can't really speak
