The famous sakura, Somei Yoshino, are finally blooming for a few days, but it rained all day today, so I'm not sure what tomorrow will look like.

It was pretty cool to hang out under some sakura treed while their petals fell.

花見!

We had two very heavy days of rainfall between a couple sunny days each time, so the blossoms have been extremely vibrant and stayed healthy a little longer than normal this year

good stuff! i would have thought heavy rain would knock them off the tree, that's not the case?

some certainly, but not the majority in this first couple of days, rain will fuel an extended big blossom like this, but now that it's been several days and the blossoms in
Matsuyama are past their prime, probably the next rain will take out these more tired trees.

I'm a few stations north today in Imabari where it's colder, and the sakura are still healthy, the major blooms are a very brief window starting in January down in Okinawa that you can follow north every few days up the islands.
