I've kept on reading Blindness, by José Saramago.

The more I read it, the better it gets! Good for the book, I suppose, though I must admit that it's getting to me. It's intense, in many ways, and disturbing in every way. Recently, actually, I had a discussion not exactly about the nature or the goodness of Man, but somewhat tangentially related to that topic, and this book is giving me regretful flashbacks to that very dialogue. The bad part about reading this novel has been my inability to decisively refute the actions of the characters! In the sense that I can't find it in me to say that nobody would act like this, or that people would unite in reason and, together, overcome the challenges of the situation.

I'm not sure this is changing me, but it's definitely getting me thinking.

It's also highlighting how important it is for harmony and neighbourliness to be encouraged without restraint, I think. We are helpless alone, especially helpless against those willing and able to take advantage of our helplessness.

I wore my black pants, today.
