Today, I read the Constitution of the USA. It was an interesting read, at least, thanks to Ray Raphael's annotations. I was actually a little concerned that the annotations could end up being a little partisan or politically charged, somehow, but I feel he actually managed to be quite balanced and neutral. That ended up being a little frustrating in itself, since some of the annotation were just begging for a statement that just never came, understandably so. Anyway, that got me thinking about what it takes to write a constitution. It sounds like an interesting project. The US constitution is a very short document. The Portuguese constitution, which I also started reading today, is much longer, for example, as well as much duller, though, in fairness to the constituent assembly of '76, the document doesn't have a Ray Raphael explaining everything to make it a little easier to digest. I've asked for an annotated version from a University, I hope I get it, though if I do it will come as a PDF, which sucks a little, but whatever. I'm feeling good about my reading. I wore shorts today, actually. |
