I still can't wrap my head around how that stupid quote became a favorite hobbyhorse of rightoids, as if this subscription economy bullshit wasn't the brainchild of the most ruthlessly capitalistic cumrags in Silicon Valley. How do they keep getting away with framing the narrative on stories like this every time?

How does that not sound communistic to the uninformed? Communism is not known for its advocacy for private property ownership.

Conservatives do not believe things. Conservatives believe people. Reality itself is defined by loyalty to ingroup hierarchy. Their stated ideals are ad-hoc justifications. And they think that's all you're doing, because they think that's all there is.

They're all feels, no thoughts nor knowledge. They were told something and it makes them feel positive feelings and so they'll stay entrenched there cause the alternative is scary (both for their ideology and because it might make them regret past actions, and regret doesn't feel nice!) and they're simple people who care not for truth, depth or thought altogether.

Modern "conservativism" is entirely based on phantasms. They have checked out from reality long ago.

I'd clock it in with forty years of Cold War and almost forty more continuing it with a trading partner as a substitute adversary.

It's called sophistry, modern "conservatism" is just sophistry, it's not that deep.
