During the 1980s, Gorbachev leader of the Soviet Union tried to reform the USSR to keep it running but his reforms failed. Perestroika lead to widespread loss of food that was available to the people and the economic plan didn’t have enough time to be implemented. It was only given 500 days when it needed at least a decade or more to implement. Gorbachev also failed to keep Boris Yeltsin in check and Yeltsin would rise to power and made Russia leave the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union had a chance of surviving until the August Coup attempt which accelerated its collapse. Boris Yeltsin would officially make Russia leave the USSR officially ending the Soviet Union. Gorbachev even resigned from his position. Gorbachev planned to reform the Soviet Union but he indirectly lead to its collapse. He must have been pretty heartbroken by this fact I can imagine. Do you think it could have been prevented and the Soviet Union would have survived minus the Baltic states?

Nothing could have been done to save the USSR by gorby. It was too late. There may have been a chance just after Stalin died. No i am not a trot not a Stalin worshiper.
