White women are the biggest receiver of government benefits in the US. They are not modifying these laws any time soon.
What's interesting to me is we just don't care that most homeless people are men.
The years that I was homeless I only ever got approved for food stamps. Which amounted to just under 250 a month.
I did not qualify for housing assistance.
I did not qualify for financial assistance.
I did not qualify for medical assistance.
I did not qualify for mental health needs.
And I went to every place in the city I was told to.
I get angry when people talk about these programs getting gutted and how they are life saving. Because I never saw shit. And eventually I had to resort to stealing food from the grocery store at points.
I only got off the streets because I was employed. And got lucky at the casino a few times.
I was never a user of hard drugs. Never. And people always assume you end up homeless because you want to do drugs all damn day. Which, at some point you have to sympathize even if a homeless person is doing a bunch of drugs. It's not like there's anything for them to have hope for. And they for damn sure aren't getting any assistance from the government. That's why they are out there in the first place!
