Is the Tesla the only EV car maker out there though? What about the others. Did they lie too?

Huh? What other automakers were claiming to have fully functional battery swap stations?

Did they lie on behalf of Tesla? Did they force Tesla to lie?

I don't know, that's what I'm asking. Did they lie about charging? How come they aren't doing what this chinese company is doing?

They did a demo of this exact thing in 2015, possibly faked, then verifiably lied and said that nobody was interested and never rolled it out.

Same reason Elon Musk's Tesla lies about anything - it's a grift. They got carbon credits for pretending to have battery swap capabilities, and they suckered customers into buying overpriced vehicles by telling them that they'd drive themselves.

My point is that all of these technologies are actually coming to pass years later.

Ok, ok, so what about the other EV car makers? Because Tesla isn't the only one who chose not to use the tech the same way the chinese company in teh article did.

I mean, surely you wouldn't have said all this really as just an excuse to crap on Musk because you don't like him, right? Surely not!

I mean, sure, he really kicked off the EV craze enough to put in the public perception more than anyone. Sure he did the same thing for Space X. But hey he's a bajillionaire who didn't program any of that shit by hand, right? So fuck him, right?

I mean, that wouldn't be the reason you left other EV makers out of your rant, right? Because or your PERSONAL hatred for him?

I like Elon Musk! :)

You tell me about other manufacturers. You're the one who brought them up.

I'm mentioning Tesla solely because of the lies relating to this article.

If you're such a Musk fan, how are you so clueless about his companies' doings?

This is an infrastructural problem that’s much harder and costlier to solve than fast charging networks.

Looks like they have 4000 stations and have been doing this for 8 years. Really impressive. I’d be interested to see their coverage map.

It'd be great if this took off here in the states. We need cheaper EV's and more stuff like this. I know most of Lemmy makes $100K a year, but the majority of working class people in the US don't make that much.

In order for the rest of us to switch over to EV, we need lower pricing and this battery switchup.

I don't think he's a Nazi, but keep going. Hey, don't forget to post that hitler/musk side-by-side gif! I know you are waiting for it! Dooo it.

I don't think he's a Nazi though. I did see a lot of nazi's painting nazi symbols on Tesla's parked in predominately Jewish neighborhoods. And pepole who would put a Nazi symbol on any Tesla they saw. Those people are def Nazis.

no one’s arguing he’s not a Nazi.

I'm arguing that. He's not. And he's never said he was a Nazi. In fact, he has denied it. You are lying. And not only that, him being a "nazi" isn't the real reason you hate him.

You hate him because him and Trump got along, and he's rich. You hate rich people. Has nothing to do with being a nazi. And you know it. Just admit it, bro. lolol

I have never been tired of waiting for my current EV to charge in any situation that wasn't a DC charger malfunctioning or failing.

I wouldn't say no to faster charging, or battery swaps if warranty concerns are properly addressed, but faster charging is not the issue for most modern EVs. The issue is there aren't enough reliable chargers in enough places.

because Tesla specifically developed and publicly demonstrated battery swapping, and then abandoned it.

Folks are pointing out Tesla because Tesla specifically deserves it.

Ok, so what about the other EV cars that never even tried the battery swapping. Shouldn't they catch heat for not doing it as well?

Good point. I was excited about EV cars when first announced, but after seeing the costs and hearing so many issues with it, no longer on my radar. My E-scooter and E-bikes are awesome tho!

Why single out Tesla for blame when no other US EV maker even tried battery swapping? They all skipped it too. My point is that everyone should be held accountable. Not just Musk, like the user I was replying to, tried to imply.

But you just said you’re not convinced it’s even a worthwhile idea. So what’s the actual problem with it? The Chinese company in the article has been running 4000 stations for eight years and it directly fixes the “sit around waiting for a charge” headache.

If it’s a dumb tech, fine. But this thread devolved into “Tesla bad!!!” yet every other EV maker that never even tried it gets a free pass.

I’m still team “cheaper cars + faster turnaround for normal people who can’t drop $100k,” not team “Musk is rich, so he must be scamming us.”

What issues? I've been driving an EV for nine years and, apart from a fun occasional ICE manual car, I can't imagine ever going back to gas. But I understand that if someone can't reliably charge at home or work, it's not likely to be viable.

Musk is the one who hyped it and then failed to deliver. Which he has a track record for doing CONSTANTLY. That is why Tesla bad. And one of many reasons why Elon is bad.

I don't fault other EV makers for not hyping up bullshit. I do blame Tesla for it.

But you yourself, said you didn't really believe in the tech. So Tesla not doing it is a good thing, right? Who cares if something is hyped. Every fucking company hypes shit. That's biz as usual.

Tesla said it might be a big thing. It wasn't. So they don't do it. Same reason other EV companies don't do it.

Costs. EV cars are still too expensive for the average person. Not everyone makes the salary of Lemmy posters.

To buy an EV car, besides the fact they are expensive, most would have to pay for a huge upgrade in their electrical system to update enough to charge at home.

Right now, EV's are an option for upper-middle class people.

used Bolts go for $15k-20k. used Leaves and i3s even cheaper.

most people only need level 1 charging at home, and even if level 2 is needed it's not necessarily a huge electrical system upgrade. if someone has an electric clothes dryer, that circuit could be used with a device that switches off the dryer's supply whem an EV gets plugged in.

My used manual hatchback, cost me $5K used last year, and gets 45mpg. My house was built in 1975. Brother, no way am I gonna pay for any of that stuff you listed.

Ok, so now we are getting somewhere. You are mad because they hype stuff up. And that's the reason you brought them up in this thread, even though they and OTHER EV companies don't use a technology that even you yourself don't think is that great. Correct?

Tesla hypes stuff up a lot, and that makes you really mad. You don't even agree with the tech the article is talking about, and Tesla doesn't use a tech that even YOU don't fucking agree with.

Tesla doesn't use a tech that other EV makers don't use either, and you don't even like the tech, but Tesla hyped it up once, even tho they made the correct choice in not using it.

Think about that for a sec. Then put the interwebs away, and go outside.

Yeah, a lot of people were proposing these kinds of ideas early on in EVs, but as range and charging speed have improved the extra cost for this infrastructure isn't worth it.

Not only does it add cost, but would reduce range as it's hard to engineer a easily swappable and slim battery (hence why most electronics don't have them anymore.
