In a nutshell, Princeton University found that those who dislike the Communist Party of China are predominantly fearful, disagreeable, and introverted, lacking close emotional attachments to others. Those who like the CPC, conversely, score high on confidence, sociability, conscientiousness, and work ethic. These are what the study calls "traits associated with personal and professional success." Importantly, the first group only make up roughly 5% of the Chinese population according to the study, which completely inverts the stereotype. It turns out that charismatic, cosmopolitan, open-minded intellectuals are the ones overwhelmingly supporters of the Party. The critics of CPC are precisely the people who are least equipped to build coalitions, mobilize others, or persuade anyone of anything. |

why do you have to attack me like that?!!! lol seriously though: this describes everyone on the spectrum and it sometimes makes me wonder if the ultra strong social conservatism in china makes it impossible for neurodivergent people like me to be happy there or even if their physiological ethos is up to par to support such a large portion of their population. |

The study does say that the discontent is seen in around 5% of the population. I don't imagine that's the totality of neurodivergent population or introverts in general. So, it's not that every introverted person is discontent, it's just those happen to be the vast majority of people who dislike the system. |

another characteristic of neurodivergent people is strong sense of justice/fairness that makes us react against unjust systems like the legal system of the united states or the imperialist hegemony to makes genocides & ethnic-cleansing a thing a in the world. in the western world, it means that we have find ways to make peace with our environments while accepting that there's little that we can do about it (making an enormous majority disconnect from society to varying degrees) and it makes me wonder what it's like in the rest of the world were doing this is not necessary. a big part of me wishes i could join them, but that social conservatism guarantees that i would never be happy nor accepted there and it certainly doesn't help that the central/federal governments outside the west still quash most attempts from people like me to assert themselves in the public sphere (seemingly out of fear of it turning into a movement that can challenge the status quo) and i partially don't blame them considering how much it was leveraged as 80's, 90's & 00's culture war fodder. |

For sure, and that's a really important point we have to keep in mind in general. Adjusting to a different culture is not an easy thing to do, and that's why the whole if you like it so much why don't you just move there rhetoric is so idiotic in nature. The reality is that you're shaped by the society you grow up in, and that alone makes it challenging to live in a different type of society. That's true even for people who aren't neurodivergent. If you grow up under capitalism, you learn to define success, happiness, social norms based on what people around you do. A different culture might have different norms which make people who grew up in that society happy, but they would chafe a person who built up very different expectations for life. If the west ever turns towards socialism, it would necessarily have its own distinct characteristics rooted in western culture and tradition. It's going to be a unique social experiment with its own qualities. We can study China and learn from it, but these learnings have to be adopted to the context of our own societies, material conditions, and history. |

I'd argue it goes beyond just disliking the status quo. In China, it would be people who are attracted to reactionary idea that they are being held down by economic and social justice of a socialist system. And in a sense they aren't wrong because capitalism rewards psychopathic behavior, where a small percentage of people who lie, cheat, and step over others get lucky and rise to the top. I bet that vast majority of these dissidents imagine themselves as the next Musk. |
