Meter may make many miracles

Invitation to others that are cool

It says:

I bought a Toke
From a Bloke
In a Cloak
But it was really
Poison Oak
I gagged and choked,
nearly croaked
Then awoke soaked
in egg yolk
That's the danger
of buying smokes
from stranger
folk

I recommend listening to a song with a solid, steady beat on repeat and writing in rhythm to it. Your brain will naturally conform words to fit that beat. Also, reading poetry can give insights to what is possible. I recommend William Blake as that was who got me to start trying emulate him

Well that's the nice thing about the art share community. You can post any art here. I often post videos of micro organisms that I write music to. That's pretty out there, so really you should feel right at home posting poems lol.

I love poems. I would be very happy to see more from you!

My worst habit is creating a lot more than I read. I'm pretty ignorant to poetry as a topic although I've been at it on and off for a couple years now and its about time I sat down and did some studying.

I usually focus on long strings of rhymes, alliteration and repeating vowel and consonant sounds. When it comes to meter I'm practically deaf to it so far but I've pulled it off in a few rhymes. Didnt worry so much about it for this one.

All in all I have fun doing this whether or not its necessarily a correct way to do poems

Do what comes natural to you and you enjoy doing tf outta and do it all the time. People don't understand this mastery ish is logarithmic; I have gone through several escarpments in capability over the twelve years I've done this near-daily, and I jist gained the ability to guarantee that I can hit near perfect line length the way I do just prior to last year. And it's still going up!

Eventually I'd like to be able to write meter off the top of my head without thinking about it too much. In the meantime, if I spend a good chunk of time agonizing over a line I can put it into meter. (I think)

"Come all beasts from west and east let's have a feast of bacon grease"

:)

Eventually I'd like to write more to songs and play and compose my own melodies.

At the moment I'm a broke joke of a star who can't afford their landlord, let alone a guitar

:(

I'm in a similar boat; difficult circumstances with my life partner. I once thought I would pop into fame being a juggler and have a job being a cop, which is the magick God used on me to get me to do my spiritual work and heal. Now I'm a juggler, educator, and a skilled righter and I know I am where I need to be for the biggest picture across eternity; which is on a trajectory with a steep positive slope.

The Buddha said enlightenment is its own reward. You don't transcend physicality for the iddhi (magick), you do it because it is what you're most meant to do, to live your ideal life and be happy making others happy. Only you know what that is, so figure out an azimuth between where you are and where you are going and how fast you can travel, keeping in mind consistency is more important than moments of spontaneous word conjuring, though the most creative things we create do just fall out of our heads at times, which happens at a greater frequency the more you practice.

The best way to integrate the habit of casual free-form anything is to tie it with something you already do. I used to run track and cross-country, and when I was playing something like Paper Mario that had a "Pit of 100 Challenges" type dungeon, I would do a set of push-ups, or sit-ups, squats - just one "rep" per floor, whatever that is - and then do a big "set" at the treasure chest floors, which I would run around the block. I did this with juggling and writing, too, which directly benefited one another, being complements of creative activity.

It won't take too long before you will see something else you can do with what you're doing, and then you will merge those together, and doors start opening up. Share your art, and market it keeping in mind how attention works (a strategic typo alone can net thousands of views), and you will manifest something for yourself, which only you can determine.

Last year during a zero dollar period I wrote this cardboard sign "Rhymes for Dimes". It worked and I had to write a lot of these to back up the performance.

I was out of a house about 3 years and was evolving upon an old pan handling habit (and strangely knowledge from my former marketing major) after I was housed and couldn't make ends meet on part time. I felt like I had to give a little something back so I did the rhyme thing, got a lot of positive feedback for it and kept doing it the whole spring summer and fall. I usually go for long rhyme chains with some sort of message behind them which vents about my situation in a humorous way in exchange for, well basically anything, even if its just a smile or a crooked look.

This year I'm trying to be more money smart and keep the performance to the local coffee shops poetry slam and open mic. I have small entrepreneurial goals and will relegate the paid performance to a suggestion on the tip jar for a while. The going business plan is street and fresh market pretzels :)

Alternitavely my life goes to the shitter again and I have something to lean on thats slightly less soul killing than the depressed approach to panhandling.

Anyways I trailed off there but my point was that its fascinating how different skills can develop together in weird ways.

Its funny you bring up video game mechanics as a thought device for real life. When I think of a longterm challenge I can slowly chip away at, like a savings or payment plan, building skills and experience, or even a long walk, I think about all those times I pulled off a long grind in Runescape haha.

Paper Mario was one of my favorite games as a kid haha. My life transformed for a while but I always held on to the nerd memories. I imagined like I was living in Fallout a lot of the time.

One thing I learned is that it only starts to really work when you stop caring about the money outright. I remember one of the first times I went out juggling to busk, where I made like $5-6, while waiting for the bus back, a young woman came up to me and asked for two dollars to see her mom in the hospital. Well, I looked up and over, and the hospital she said was right there, two blocks away, so I tried to help her by telling her how to get there, then offered to carry her even, but she kept wiggling out of it and saying she needed to catch the bus there. Well, I thought I was being scammed, so I huffed off, to see a man around the corner look disappointed at me while putting a large bill away.

Karma is real, both artificial and divine. The world and linear causation are illusions, where consciousness is the base substance of reality, but not like pansychism that says rocks n trees are conscious, but rather we are pockets of consciousness called monads that get woven between parallel universes to facilitate our Karma. I can explain the mechanisms behind this to some detail, but the thing I'm saying is, what you put out determines what comes back to you. Your intention is the only thing you have direct control over, and you entangle yourself in every moment because of it.

Karmic entanglement = quantum entanglement.

I feel a big karmic debt for all of it and always pay forward when I get an opportunity but it would take years at this point.

Back to the topic of meter, how's this attempt?

You might have seen a sign of mine

It says this line, its "Rhymes for Dimes"

Was Written fast with ill design

So hastily with little time.

And made with cardboard slicked with grime

I call at strangers with a mime

Then I am paid a Single dime

and I climb up from my long sit

Get up to play the silly bit

Put out the cigarette I had lit

Then chime a prime brief rhyme sublime

And what had I received for this crime?

mountains of lime coloured slime covered dimes from my fountain of rhymes!

You might have seen a sign of mine

Says this line - “Rhymes for Dimes”

Was Written fast w/ divine design

So hastily and with little bit of time

Made w cardboard slicked w grime

Call @ strangers by means o mime

Then, I be paid w/ a Singlular dime

And I climb up from my longest sit

Getting up to thus play the silly bit

Putting out the cigarette I'd just lit

Chime brief prime rhyme sublime

& wat did I receive for this crime?

Mountains of lime coloured slime covered dimes from my fountain of rhymes!

You can spruce it up even more, I just did it fast. You've got the spirit, and thst is the fuel that will carry you the distance.

I'm puzzled by a few of the edits where you substitute with using /w as well as and using &. Is it meant to emphasize the words are stressed differently?

Also divine seems like the wrong adjective. The description of the sign is supposed to give a vibe of self aware incompetence while divine seems boastful.

I'll take this one back to the workshop and tweak the meter. I thought I had it. Speaking of videogames, I found a fun trick that kind of works for me; I imagine the voice in Illidan in cutscene dialogues with the dramatic emphasis on stressed syllables. Its not perfect but it makes me giggle.

I really like the way you worded the mime part but I'll use something Ill write myself just so its more mine :)

It's to shorten length.

W/ is a common abbreviation for "with;" W/o is a common one for "without." & is the ampersand and means "and."

The divine has no problem being the fool. Someone wise once asked if God can microwave a burrito so hot even He can't eat it. In that same light, I once seen John Cena lose to a little girl in arm wrestling. "Divine" is not "anti-slime," but rather "slime" is half of divine.

Also, my original poem was meant to show alternative forms of limitations you could use to evoke creativity, to include consonance/alliteration. I really stand by the notion that a strategic typo does something wonky with human psychology; comparing two equivalent level of skill jokes, with one being a double-meaning typo, that is the one that will have a full order of magnitude more views, for whatever sociological reason.

And you are going to be photographed/filmed, have no doubt.

I don't know what Illidan is, but I liked games when I was younger (a cult reprogrammed my dopamine through oil changes n cheese cloths; operant and classical conditioning), and if you want me to understand, send a clip of what you mean.

I know what they are I was just a little puzzled by you using them and wondered if abbreviating the words was a way to emphasize the word is spoken unstressed in that use.

Illidan is a Warcraft character

You know I watched some videoclips of him and the actual footage doesn't quite do it the same as mine and my partners Parody version of him so I guess I've sort of changed the character in my head aha

We noticed how Illidan's dialogue became slower and more dramatic, our version is sort of a charicature with an even more dramatic voice and we tend to shout out the stressed syllables in some words.

So I imagine I guess a parody version of that character as an aid to help me pick up on stressed and unstressed syllables and the way certain words and syllables can be stressed differently depending how they are placed in the sentence and how it is spoken.

"YOU are NOT prePARED!"
