How do they know if there is some space left between walls or none? |

There's always some space left between the walls, you can always go deeper. See, lightcycles have a resource called rubber that slows them down as they approach a wall. If you use more rubber than the opponent, you get closer to the wall. But run out of rubber, and you crash. And it's all gone in a split second, so burning the maximum amount of rubber before death requires frame-perfect reactions. It's easier to control your rubber use if you pump the brakes and slow down. But you gain speed when grinding near walls faster than your brakes can recharge, so mazing can speed you up until you're out of control. |

That's a neat idea, sounds like quite well thought out mechanics |
