My Piefed instance claims I've been using it for 29 hours this month. I doubt that.

Does it count while a tab is open? If so, that'd explain it.

I'm realizing that we should probably make an easy way to reset the timer on a device if it gets run up due to leaving a tab open and walking away. In the past that timer was nothing more than a curiosity. However, now that there is a way to put self-imposed soft limits on usage, we should flesh out that functionality a bit.

Yeah, I often open a tab and then think "First I need to eat and then I'll read" and I just leave it open.

Lol! That's some timey-wimey stuff! To be frank, I have no idea the exact details of how this little snippet of javascript keeps track of things for this counter. But, unless you are in some kind of hyperbolic time chamber when you browse, I don't think the timer should be going that high.

When I posted it 12 days ago in another thread, it was at 2466hrs, so I've gained about 20hrs per day since then. That's at least temporally possible, but the overall stat is not, since there are only ~720hrs in a month. Puzzling!

It's stored in Local Storage, which is basically a special kind of cookie that is not sent to the server (unlike cookies which are sent with every page load).

We could monitor mouse and scroll movements (and keystrokes) and stop incrementing the timer if there are none after a minute or so?
