I feel the actual answer is the show would have simply made sure no children were ever anywhere near Truman. They controlled every aspect of his life, after all.

They also raised him. It's not like sexual predators just appear out of nowhere.

He would go to jail, it would make the logistics of the program much easier.

I am actually now surprised they did not push for something like that to save money.

Viewership would probably drop, and the product placement embedded in the show that funded the whole program would be difficult to do in jail.

If the modern Internet has taught me anything, anything can be sponsored and embedded.

Much like today's jail sponsor NordVPN. Ever feel like you can't access anything because of where you live? That's because some sites lock you in. With NordVPN, you can experience the internet the way it was meant to be by forwarding your connection to anywhere in the world. Use code 'TRUMAN26' for the first month free.

The Truman Show didn't have commercial breaks or ad reads. People in his environment may speak highly of a product (sometimes to a suspicious degree), but they only spoke to people inside the simulation. The products had to naturally fit into his environment.

The level of risk Hollywood is willing to take on today is very low due to streaming. There is more competition for people's attention and money.

They would rather take an IP that they know is popular than to take a risk on something unknown.

What I'm saying is that the show would have evolved to do more ads.

Just like this new double headed toilet brush, the Goug-O-Matic Pro 3000 Plus fits naturally into the male urethra. Look how naturally it slides in and latches on, allowing for one to relieve one's bladder and clean around the house!

Jumping the shark and downsizing the operation is more realistic.

The movie was before the realityshow boom, the least realistic part is everybody being hooked up in a such static show. They would have tried different things to keep the ratings, actually him being a molester would have given a hike to the ratings, maybe also offering him to join a gang in jail, or giving him missions to kill other people.

Product placement is the least of my worries, give me any product I will shoehorn it in a jail environment.

They were saving it for the late season rating slump.

Not really since Truman would have no concept of what jail was other than what they tell him it is. They could make jail be a 24/7 infomercial that he has to perform and he would believe it because it is literally all he knows.

You’re probably right about the viewership though since a large part of the appeal seemed to be the parasocial relationship with a man who was presented as a decent and relatable guy.

Other people have already mentioned it but they literally raised him to be the ideal happy go lucky person.

Sure he figured it out, but there is no way he would become a sociopath with all the love and attention they gave him.

There is a deleted scene in the film where they discuss replacing Truman. Basically they bring in a new "Truman", film both of them, then the original Truman dies, and the show only follows new "Truman".

I assume if Truman were heading down a path where he needed to be replaced they'd do something similar.

IDK. I could see a sequel making sense. After Truman leaves, the dome is still there and all the infrastructure still exists. Why wouldn't they just go again with another kid? Hell, maybe that just becomes part of the show's appeal. You know they're going to figure it out eventually, and all the drama is on seeing how long that takes and what the reaction will be. You wouldn't even have to use many of the same characters.

Now Truman himself going back in the dome? That would be stupid.

I think they control the ecosystem so much he couldn't. They'd always have a cop or two on duty to stop him or keep him in line or probably just remove whatever demographic he's targeting

He's also been raised to perceive the world as Christof (Christophe? Kristof? Ed Harris' character) designed it. So ubiquitous product placement would not have felt strange to him, or even people overly talking about a product, because he'd have nothing to compare this behavior to. Not until he began to suspect things, which is when he confronts his wife ("who the hell are you talking to?")

They do actually nearly kill him in the movie. Paul Giamatti's character protests about this and refuses to cooperate when Ed Harris' character wants a full-blown hurricane at sea to try and get Truman to comply

Hell, maybe that just becomes part of the show's appeal. You know they're going to figure it out eventually, and all the drama is on seeing how long that takes and what the reaction will be. If you got today's Jim Carrey to do a sequel where he's disenfranchised by the world, where Truman has had his coattails ridden by porn stars and politicians and celebrities all alike, because he's the most famous man on the planet, until they all got tired of him, and just left him alone in a strange world that he's completely and totally unprepared for, having been raised in a 1940s nuclear family-esque society his entire life...

Then Christoph's successor,, Paul Giamati, comes and finds him in a bar one night and says, we're doing the Truman Show again. Do you want to come back and be the new Truman's father?

The whole show comes from Truman getting to re-experience everything that he went through from the other side, and figuring out how to rationalize that and make the best of the situation as he guides his child and protege through life in the Truman Show universe with Elan, then it could be a very good movie.

There's a lot of allegory that it could rely on as well, Plato's allegory of the cave, what it would mean to go back in the cave once you've seen the light outside, what it would mean to intentionally be an actor, creating a false reality for an innocent person to experience.

And what would happen if the new Truman, at the age of 19 or 21, suddenly realizes the truth of the situation, and everything goes off the rails again, and the original Truman is forced to decide whether to help his protégé either escape the show, and go through the same experiences that he had gone through outside of the dome, or to somehow convince him to stay, because now, with 30 years of experience, the original Truman knows better.

It could also play on the idea of older people with more experience knowing things that younger people do not, even though the younger people feel right and true and convicted of their convictions.

In short, I'm saying it might be worth a try. It just depends on the quality of the writers and the vision of the story.

And if you wanted the story to take a dark turn, Paul Giamatti could have arranged for a woman to sleep with Truman and then steal his semen so that the new Truman would actually be the original Truman's genetic child, and that could be revealed towards the end of the movie for that one last twist of the knife as they come to the grand conclusion of whether you should escape Plato's cave when you know the cave exists.

Idk when I came out as gay, or in my parents eyes, a child molester. They asked if I was touched as child by a priest or family friend. Of course they were wrong, I was just born this way.
