I read an essay by Rousseau, today, on whether the development of science and arts benefits human morality.

I thought it was very good! Insightful, anyway. It prompted me to write a little in my journal, and by a little I mean about 2 pages, about what I am to do with myself. The conclusion: pursue virtue, and just do my best. There's really nothing else I can do, I think; the question becomes then: what is my best? and how can I know what direction is best?

I think I have my compass pointed to the true north, and if I don't, that's fine too: I'll just keep trying to learn where to point my compass and adjust as I go. Mistakes are inevitable, and hence they are not mistakes; the only mistake is to stay still.

The pursuit of arts and science is good, as long as it's aimed strictly and powerfully towards the benefit of mankind, with a focus on practical utility. That's what I came to.

I want to start a homestead.

I wore sweats, today.
