No Because Modi just made a defense agreement with Russia last week, this changes nothing in that regard. |

No Because Modi just made a defense agreement with Russia last week, this changes nothing in that regard. We have had trade with India all along, I'm OK with increasing that, but it doesn't really change anything politically about India, or the level of cooperation between India and Russia or India and EU. He is of course welcome, and maybe it can pave the way for more in the future. But this i...
We read nothing beyond the news. Europe is excited to host Modi. |

I bet the main reason for this trip by Modi, is that India is in a pretty tight spot economically. There were news on lemmy yesterday, that investors are fleeing India like never before. |

But yes EU absolutely wants to cooperate with India, that's what EU is all about. Peace and prosperity through cooperation.

Sometimes the news are reporting facts, I go by the facts. But I also try to understand the context of it. And maybe that is kind of what you do too.? |

Yes, context is important. That's how the world shapes up. You try to understand the context of it. I try to guess the context behind I look deeper though. Judging the world by the news is the same thing as jumping into a swimming pool by figuring out its depth from the surface. |

@buffalox@lemmy.world keep an eye on this space. I shall be posting various reports of Modi's tour here, the same report from various perspectives. You need to check the credibility of the news source yourself though. |

I have subscribed, because I think in general we don't get enough info from India. India is almost a fifth of the global population, so it is a very big country especially by population, that has a significant impact on the world. |

I definitely look deep too, I put things into several contexts like economical, political, cultural, historical and also defense as in safety for the country, and here I see USA, China and Russia as the generally most dangerous countries in the world. Where EU is a voluntary democratic union between smaller countries, and the respect for democracy and freedom of the nation states can clearly be seen in how UK was allowed to leave freely. This is very contrary to the actual actions of USA where cessation is declared illegal, and Russia that is waging war against former Soviet states, and China that is constantly threatening Taiwan. |

Looking at World History, the previous so called World Wars were largely Europe based wars, where countries from other parts of the world got dragged into. It was so in the case of the US. India at that time was a subject nation of the UK. |

But you've raised a very important point. Trump-Putin-Xi are the major players now. And Modi actually moves from one to the other. |

Not Europe, Europe means all European countries, and Russia is also in Europe. Being a union of states can mean many things, in USA it means that each state does NOT have similar rights to the countries of EU. The federal government can force unwanted regulation on any state. USA claim that states have freedom, but in reality they don't. As I understand it, India is much more like USA regarding the rights of their states, and that's democratically problematic. |
