Mineral water, or bubbly water. Bubbly mineral water. It’s all gross and I’m tired of pretending it’s not.

Just a question. Where are you from?

Sucralose and Acesulfame are nearly just as disgusting to me. Stevia is the only one I can drink.

I've never looked up which exact sweetener is bitter to me, aspertane just seems very common. However, there have been no sugar free drink I've enjoyed.

Don't get me wrong. These sweeteners are sweet, but then there's this long lingering chemical bitterness. And it fucking stays in the mouth like onions or some shit.

Saw several coffees mentioned and that got me wondering. I have had good cafe coffee once in my life. Most of the cafes make sugar nonsense. When I order black coffee, it's a coin flip between burnt bitter mess and fucking battery acid. Now what are the chances that many people haven't had a decent cup of black coffee?

I don’t know why but in my country is very widespread the torrefacto coffee, that shit is disgususting, and almost everywhere you order coffee is always torrefacto (except in proper coffee shops, they are getting popular lately).

And in lot of places they make it even worse, so I would say that the chances are pretty high here.

Typical British tea. I'm British and definitely an outlier but the typical black tea with milk and sugar is revolting to me. I love green, oolong, some black, yellow, white etc though.

there isnt much options for sweetners, its either sugar, stevia, somehow they might have ethyrthiol, but that can causes loose bowel movements, so itas uncommon

I know it's not for everyone, but I personally prefer Splenda or sucralose.

The thing is most chain cafes here only serve coffee from an espresso machine and most people here are familiar only with chain cafes. So best case they tried americano type of drink, which to me is always very harsh.

You know in retrospect I am in Sydney and never really went to chains so I might have been spoilt

I can't stand homemade eggnog... One wiff of the fresh nutmeg reminds me of the time I downed half a cup of it in a moment of desperation; aka to get high. Not recommended, felt like a 48 shitty weed Brownie high mixed with a minor flu. That amount of nutmeg is the most putrid shit ever. Getting it down was insanely difficult. Standard issue cheap grocery store eggnog on the other hand is so fu...

Even a consideration of consuming it again makes my stomach start rotating. Tbh I’ve never met anyone who dislikes it other than me so I always assumed it was a me thing. Absolutely rancid stuff Imo. Interesting to hear of all people’s preferences and preparations of it though.

I absolutely love the taste of energy drinks. The more artificial and tangy, the better. It's hard to find, but there's a soda that tastes like an energy drink without the caffeine and I buy it whenever I can.

You sick son of a bitch.

Tap water. This is highly dependent on where you live. I've had well water that was better than anything I've ever drank and then there's city/town water... ugh. It's funny how people bring up how advanced the local water plant is while turning a blind eye to the, I don't know 50-60 year old piping that delivers it to your house? I have to run a whole house filter just to shower with it.

Water filters are a thing.

I have a working theory that the availability of sweeteners has altered drinking preferences over generations. When I was growing up everybody drank coffee and beer (and smoked cigarettes, which is probably a little related but a different story). Coffee and tea were the only feasible way to get caffeine. Sure, cream and sugar was available and used, but as you get more acclimated to the taste ...

We must be the same age. Zima was a revelation, especially with the jolly rancher in it. Then in college it was just Beast Light because that’s what was available to me.

Sounds like the process is less of an issue and more the fact that it's used to cover up low quality coffee beans.

"I have to run a whole house filter just to shower with it."

Adding in a water filtration system to make it drinkable costs more than just buying water jugs or refiling 5 gallon ones at stores. I mean the water comes out rusty sometimes.

Seconded. I'm willing to believe that a decent amount of people like it, tastes changing from person to person, but I really tried and I feel like there might be a lot more peer pressure in there than we expect.

I'd say it depends on the beer a lot, as well. Personally I like sours, but will occasionally want an IPA. The American-style beer is only tolerable after you get a few drinks in

I guess I meant more like a Brita filter. Or, my fridge has one built in. I never have to buy bottled water and it tastes great.

All diet drinks. Whatever sugar substitutes they use taste awful no matter what. Now there are products I can't consume because the default version has fake sugar as well. Nasty stuff.

I like it better. I can't stand regular coke or pepsi, it tastes like syrup. Diet ones are better. Nowdays I'm enjoying Pesi Black, really nice taste.

If you like that bite, you might also try (non-alcoholic) birch beer. It's generally stronger.

Maybe it was just the brand I had tried, but the last time I had birch beer it tasted like milder, sweeter root beer.

Your perspective is appreciated. Luckily (with some minor exceptions) my social circle is supportive of my choice not to drink and enjoys my chauffeur services.

Be sure to mention you're the DD, some restaurants and bars may not charge you for your drink. And I'll be honest, a good Shirley Temple is refreshing of a non-alcoholic cocktail.

For me it's anything diet or zero branded. Fucking aspertane. That bitter aftertaste just feels like someone raped the sugar out of the beverage.

I've always hated diet sodas but the new Coke Zero Sugar is pretty close to good. Zero alone wasn't quite there, I used to mix it with the full sugar Coke, but they tweaked it and shifted to Zero Sugar, and got really close. It doesn't have any aftertaste at all, it's just not quite as sweet tasting, which is good. I've tried the Zero Sugar versions of a few other drinks, and they were acceptable, too.

I've never seen a drink company switch their formulations so quickly. Coke Zero wasn't out that long before they launched the new improved version. They obviously realized that the Zero Sugar formulation was significantly improved, and what they were going for in the first place. They got close, got excited and pulled the trigger early on Zero, then discovered Zero Sugar was a far superior product, and made the switch.

I've actually seen a TV commercial in which they called Coke Zero Sugar their best Coke yet. That's a big claim for a venerated old brand to make.

I used to think that, too, then someone handed me a Waterloo. They have enough natural flavor that it isn't just a hint, but it isn't overwhelming either. They nailed it perfectly.

I don't like all the flavors, some are awful. I love the Peach, Strawberry, and the Ruby Rec Tangerine the best. I've recently discovered that the Lemon Lime and Blackberry Lemonade are also delicious.

Zero calories, sugar or sodium, and so delicious that I often walk away from the fridge with a Waterloo rather than a beer or soda. I gave up sugary drinks a few years ago (lost 100 pounds), and Waterloo has been one of my best tools.

I know one worse: America Whiskey. A bar gave me a free shot of it and that horrific flavor didn't leave my tongue for over 24 hours. I can still remember the taste.

While we had it in stock that short time (the bar had received it for free as a promotional sample) I would buy the table Jameson but I would be sure to give the America Whiskey shot to anyone who was being a dick that night, telling them it was Jamo.

On the one hand, you're right I could probably try some more since there are lots of styles, but I have had several.

On the other hand, this is the same thing people tell me about anime, and I find it to all be bad-ime.
