Anyone looking to deploy a public Lemmy server: plz try to avoid making it general purpose. There are too many general purpose nodes and not enough themes.

It would be useful to have a node that is devoted to travel and navigation and maps. Considering it is no longer possible to anonymously contribute OSM data, it would be useful to have Lemmy communities for OSM work. If I want to create a community for just tracking OSM issues in New York, the temptation would be to create an osm_usa-newyork community. But then someone else or myself might want an osm_usa-california-LA community. Obviously these could really pollute a general purpose instance.

In principle, the OpenStreetMaps project should have their own piefed instance.

What would be the difference to the existing OSM forum: https://community.openstreetmap.org/

Maybe ask them to enable the Discourse Activity Pub plugin?

I get this:

Maybe ask them to enable the Discourse Activity Pub plugin?

If that would make their community reachable to Lemmyverse, then indeed that’d be a good solution.

I have only tested it with Mastodon like AP software, but I guess it might also work with Lemmy.
