Cure cancer? Which type? It's not one disease, that's the entire problem you stupid fucks.

Lung cancer probably, just an educated guess

Article quotes 1 CEO, one of their own "journalists", and 0 labor leaders Also he fails to name one noted in the article but they went ahead and published it anyways because fuck journalism I guess. He is lying, business insider has never been a reputable source for news

Journalism is dead at pretty much all the major news outlets. Its bought and paid for slop that maybe has a human editor if it's important enough to the wealthy prick that paid for it.

Is a p value of .05 normal for medicine?

Pretty cool, though.

Taking up smoking because they expect cancer to be cured in the future is like deciding to purposely crash your car because you know that broken bones can heal

Yeah I suspect they're smoking because of stress and lying about why

2019 in December so it's 7 this year, 8 next year.

Yes, 7+1 is 8. You didn't need screenshots for that :)

2019+7= 2026 next year it'll be my 8th year which is 2027, 2019+8= 2027.

I quit when the pandemic started which it started in 2019, I quit in December of 2019.

I suppose my wording puzzles people sometimes.

People forget that our economic system isn't a law of nature. It's a social construct, and can be changed just like any other.

@DojanParts of it are even pretty recent. The Friedman Doctrine, for example. "a company’s social responsibility is to increase its profits and maximize shareholder value". I call it the worst idea in capitalism. It's what's forcing companies to pollute and lie about it, to bribe politicians and to create misinformation campaigns. As long as it's legal, it is their responsibility to do all of that. The idea stems from 1970 and became popular during the 1980s. It is the most harmful idea in capitalism (which is not short of harmful ideas).

It is not even a good one. Is this really the most convincing argument the CTO of one of the most aggressive tech companies can come up with? Are these people just facades because with mental skills like this I don't think they can even run a lemonade stand. What even makes them useful, connections? Willingness to sacrifice their humanity for profit? A never ending obedience to shareholders?

I’d be more convinced if they intentionally contracted AIDS because they were confident in their slop machine.

… I still wouldn’t use their products, but I’d believe that they believe the word guesser machine might cure cancer

I mean I fully believe they don't understand cause and effect and that curing something down the road doesn't prevent irreparable harm in the mean time.

Good job still not smoking!

Thank you. In all likelihood I'll keep it up ;)

For anyone interested, Allen Carr's book was the thing that finally worked to get me stopped, and then later NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) that I was taking for something unrelated seemed to really make me just forget about them altogether. There's something about NAC and various neurotransmitters that seems to have a positive effect on addictive/compulsive behavior. I had no idea at the time, this was before anyone knew that about NAC, but it seemed to help with the persistent thoughts once I had already quit.

I should've said next December will be my 8th year of not smoking cigarettes, for this December is my 7th year of not smoking smoking cigarettes. My wording confused you probably like it did a lot of other people. I suppose it inadvertently became a word problem.

Which is only one of the several cancers caused by smoking, albeit a difficult one to treat.

AIDS is already pretty much solved for people with good access to healthcare.

Cuba developed a lung cancer vaccine way back in 2015. The US began clinical trials in 2016, which are now in Phase II development as of 2023. I don't think it's crazy to say that we will make lung cancer a treatable condition in our lifetimes. But that's not going to save you from the rapid onset aging, the yellow fingers, the foul breath, the ridiculous expense of modern cigarettes, or the fa...

Malaria, cholera, tuberculosis, etc. already can be cured with high recovery rate. And yet, I'm not going to willingly get those either.

Would it perhaps leave Vegans in place? Especially vegans that eat and farm plants that remove more emissions than trees do?

Pray tell how any non-tree plant removes emissions unless you chuck it into a five-kilometers-deep mine.

Trees specifically only ‘remove emissions’ if you plant more of them than get rotten or burnt.

October 2026 minus December 2019 = 6 years, 10 months.

More accurately: AI researchers are taking up smoking because of the immense pressure and burnout they're feeling.

I started self destructing since AI has slithered its way into aspects of my life that gave me a reason to exist.

Not because I think it’ll save me but because I just don’t give a shit about anything anymore thanks to it’s gross existence.

Algae gets eaten by plankton, which get eaten by whales, which then fall to the bottom of the ocean when dead, which then get eaten by scavengers that live in the ocean floor, which then turn into sediment when they die.

Also, any plants you eat get turned into shit, which can then be used as fertilizer mixed into the dirt to grow more plants.

Do oceans not have bacteria that break down organic matter? Does ocean water not contain oxygen that combines with carbon during decomposition?

plants you eat get turned into shit, which can then be used as fertilizer mixed into the dirt to grow more plants.

Is animal flesh not turned into shit? Are fertilizers carbon? Or do they rather provide nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium? And even if it is carbon, does shit dumped into fields not rot?

Your last proposition implies that it's the continuous production of shit and new plants that's keeping the carbon bound. But it means then that the humans are actually the store of carbon. Maybe we should chuck humans into five-kilometers-deep mine shafts.
