Yes, the danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing

In hindsight, it was irresponsible to watch Robocop as a 10-year-old.

Your example took me a minute to remember what it was from, but yes, Judge Doom definitely deserves a spot on the list.

I watched the first 10 minutes of Friday the 13th then shut it off because I was too scared. The Jason in my mind was more terrifying than any of his movies.

Chucky scared the ever living shit out of me when I was a kid! I had this recurring nightmare that whenever I'd close my eyes I could see through Chucky's eyes and he'd be killing people or on his way to my house to get me. It was awful. Now he's one of my favorite horror icons.

Chucky scared the shit out of me too. That and the Mars Attacks aliens which is pretty funny in hindsight.

The Adventures of Mark Twain from 1985 has a scene where Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, and Becky Thatcher enter a sort of pocket dimension and meet a stranger who is just a robe holding a mask. The stranger claims their name is Satan. Satan creates a doll sized castle and gives the children clay to make people. After the people are made Satan gives them life and all 4 characters watch the clay people for a little while. Then Satan calls them insignificant, annoying, and worthless before he smashes some with his hand, lightning strikes other clay people, and the rest get swallowed up by a sinkhole along with the castle. While this is happening Satan's face/mask distorted and twists until it resembles a skull.

I saw this movie while spending a weekend at a family member's house as a kid, maybe somewhere between the ages of 5 and 7 (it was an old movie then). I woke up in the middle of the night and this movie was put on while I was left alone in the living room. I don't remember anything else from this movie, but it definitely fucked me up

The Borg.

I watched Star Trek as a kid with my grandma on our local TV station. The Borg were always so scary to me because not even the super advanced Federation could defeat them. And the assimilation they did of stripping away who and what you were was terrifying.

Then First Contact came out and I learned that they just as vulnerable as anyone else to a 45 ACP and that was alright.

Gremlins, when they transformed

A few years ago, we had some family friends (a conservative but nice Christian family) over for a movie night. They had a couple of younger girls, I think about 7 and 10 or so, plus ours about the same age. It was October so I suggested Gremlins, as I vaguely remembered enjoying it as a kid - and besides, it's only PG! It's a comedy!

Yeah that was a mistake.

A few months later they came over for dinner and another movie, and this time I was more careful - they wanted a family-friendly action movie, so I suggested Point Break. I honestly don't know what the fuck I was thinking.

Now I no longer trust my own recollections of how "family-friendly" movies are anymore. I guess I just don't really pay attention to that.

For some reason they haven't kept in touch...

I saw Robocop too early.

The Boddiker gang scared me to death. Way more than ED209. Not so much because of the violence and gore, it was the (new to me) idea that people could enjoy hurting others. I found that profoundly disturbing.

Ugh... I grew up during the 80s with absolutely no parental oversight. I was allowed to read and watch whatever I wanted. Ton of slasher and horror movies, though 3 fuuuuuucked me up. Friday the 13th - Jason, Child's Play - Chucky, and the most impactful being Nightmare on Elm Street - Freddy Krueger.

At a 6 year old sleepover, the host father rented Nightmare on elm Street for a bunch of us little dudes. Half way through the movie, i got up and dressed out of my pajamas and walked home. I had nightmares for years about Freddy, chasing me in our basement around the oil heater. Fucking traumatized.....

I was too young to watch that. I couldn’t look at eggplants afterwards because they reminded of the things the aliens hatched out of.

I was too terrified to watch Killer Klowns from Outer Space on VHS growing up. Picking out a movie I would always quickly skip over it and try not to look for too long. The first time I watched it in my 20s I was laughing my ass off at both the movie and the fact that I had made it that far in life thinking it was really scary.

Same goes for the book Slaughterhouse Five. It must have had some pop culture inertia if they made at least five of them.

I never had an issue with scary movies growing up, but fuck Poltergeist 2 and the braces scene. I was already uncomfortable with the dentist and I knew I eventually needed braces. That ruined me.

The thing about Ghostlbuster II that got me the most was Janosz in spectral form flying in with a carriage and stealing the baby.

Anyway, time to drink myself to sleep.
