Local delicacy, basically boiled cabbage leaf wraps stuffed with rice and herbs and a bit of ground beef (optional). Sounds weird, tastes great if made well. |

At first I thought you were describing galumpkis. What is the sauce like on that? Is it pesto like? |

This sounds good. I would try this. It almost sounds like an unstuffed cabbage recipe a friend if mine was describing. |

That sounds absolutely delicious to me. Then again, I'm currently developing plans to do something to a ham that involves combining the underlying principles of a French reduced red-wine sauce and Chinese red braising, so maybe I'm not the best judge. |

It's usually served with an egg-lemon-broth sauce. Sometimes thickened a bit with some corn starch. It's very mild tasting, not as "eggy" as you'd expect. Apparently they're known as "Greek cabbage rolls" if you wanna get a recipe |

I started eating strictly healthy food 3 years ago and only just tried brown lentils for the first time a few months ago and now half of my food budget goes towards lentils. Lol |

I did some digging and found that Dolma (Turkish name for vine leaf wraps we have here in Greece as well with the same name), Mahshi and Γεμιστά (rice stuffed vegetables) are etymologically the same word "stuffed / to stuff-fill with". Due to the proximity of Greece, Türkiye, Egypt etc it makes sense that we share that dish with basically the same name translated in each language. |

Not grape leaves?
That's another dish. In Greek we call them by their Turkish name "Ντολμαδάκια" or "Ντολμάδες" for the grape leaf ones (the Turkish word is Dolma for something stuffed) The cabbage ones are "Λαχανοντολμάδες", with the word "Λάχανο" added in front which means cabbage, so "cabbage Dolma". Essentially the cabbage ones are named as a variation of the grape leaf recipe. Their main difference is the grape leaf ones are mostly served "dry", more like sushi. |

That message from the CEO… damn “you basically have about 7 hours to get all your stuff and get off our ship. Have fun in a foreign country!” The company knew this was a failed business model and probably were bleeding money and this was the last straw. |

In Cambodia? Definitely. I haven't been there recently though so I don't have first-hand price references. I don't know how these luxury cruise passengers are taking it, but I'd say there are definitely worse places to be stranded than on the shores of The Gulf of Thailand, next to a huge nature preserve https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ream_National_Park |

For comfortable western standards, we averaged about 30USD per night in Cambodia as a couple. |

A cruise ship getting stranded in Iowa would take some pretty creative navigation. |

Well… yes and no. The eastern border is the Mississippi River, after all, and river cruises are absolutely a thing. |

Not much "luxury" in a cruise if you get stranded in nowhereland, err, -sea. If they don't have money to fuel their ship, when will they run out of money to pay the crew, or to buy food? |

A lot of those were likely assumed to be fixed costs. Obviously it was not an overwhelmingly successful business if they could not absorb the extra expenses, but according to the article fuel prices, which are likely one of their biggest variable expenses, had more than quadrupled. I'm not sure the margin cruises are making, but there are a lot of businesses closing because of fuel prices, so they're not alone there. This is a horrible way to deal with the issue though. I'm not sure what recourse the passengers have because they signed up for 3 years and only got 2, but I hope they are able to be made whole. |
