Let us imagine a scenario. In this scenario all of human history has been irrecoverably deleted from the universe. In such a scenario, someone with an active imagination, and some skill with putting cause to effect, could presumably make up the entire history of humanity in his mind, and be just as right as anyone else. Here lies my pet peeve with reality. If something can't be verified, it might as well be anything. And while the bird of equinox has infinite beaks, it has only one eye, and with this eye it can only see one direction. Seemingly, the original state of things does not matter. The universe started with a big bang. Or maybe, it was sneezed into existence. Or maybe, God had a cigarette in his hand and then said "let there be a light" so he could smoke it. Does it matter? If we can't tell one way or the other, and it doesn't directly affect our lives, then no, it does not. If anyone can prove me wrong on this point, please do so. Because to me it seems that reality is much more flexible than we originally assumed. |
