Have you ever argued with someone, either online or in real life, and they said something to the tone of "I'm going to be the bigger man here, and walk away". And tell me, dear reader, have you ever felt respect for the self-proclaimed "Bigger Man", or did you just feel annoyed that they either don't understand your points or don't want to engage?

Personally, I find such behavior insulting. Either tell me you don't want to speak with me for some personal reason, or tell me I'm being a dumbass. You are not a "Bigger Man" for walking away, you're a coward. You're showing your opponent not that you are better than them, but that you can't convince them, or are not willing to be convinced yourself.

So, stop acting like it's the morally better thing to do than engaging in conversation.

Of course, there are situations where just simply walking away really is the best option. But these situations are extremely rare. When you have an argument online, neither you ar the person you are engaging with is in any danger, so why walk away? Are you scared of being hurt by words? Are you afrad of hurting someone else with your words? Why? They are just words. Words exist to carry information.

Personally, whenever I want to insult someone, I use insults, not sarcasm. I use sarcasm when I'm being nice. Am I really so detached from reality that I speak in a way that people find insulting, even when I mean no insult at all? Or are people too sensitive, finding meaning where there is none?

I don't know.

All I do know is that I really hate these self-proclaimed "Bigger men". You are not a good person for refusing to engage an alternative perspective. You might walk away feeling good with yourself, but you are just showing everyone you are weak and possibly dumber than you realize. Acting this way is not morally superior, it's self-serving and pompous. You are not a valiant knight walking away from a pointless battle, you are just another internet idiot stuck in an echo chamber, refusing to hear an alternative view.
