I would like to put a thought inside the planetary brain. I am a single neuron firing wildly, wanting to be noticed.

What is consciousness?

We all experience it, but it's rather difficult to define. We all know it instinctually, but when it comes to describing it, we are at a loss of words.

Let me present a thesis that has been captivating me for a while now.

There is only one consciousness. What we experience, our subjective perspective, is just an instance. Like a song broadcasted on a radio. When you turn on the radio, you can hear the song, and when you turn on another radio, you can hear the same song. But each instance of the song is separate, even though they originate from the same radio station.

Consciousness is not an emergent phenomenon inside the brain. It is a constant of the universe. A field that the brain tunes into.

We already know that consciousness has levels to it. It is kind of like a volume dial, or a potentiometer. It's a spectrum.

Let's do a little thought experiment. Imagine putting a single person inside an otherwise completely empty universe. Then, this universe expands faster than light, separating all the atoms that constituted the person by millions of kilometers. Then, let's compress this universe back together, reconstituting the person that we just pulled apart. Is it the same person, or just a perfect recreation?

If consciousness needs continuity to persist, then this reconstituted person is just a perfect recreation, and the original consciousness, the original "person" is gone. But we can't exactly get a report from a dead person. This experiment would only work if you do it to yourself, and even then, the new consciousness would think it is the original. So, there would be no objective difference.

But the universe doesn't like when things aren't defined. Things like particles and states of matter can exist in a superposition for quite a long while, but at some point they have to define themselves. When a particle is observed, it's superposition collapses into one objective outcome.

I have a wild claim. Maybe consciousness is not generated by the brain, but the brain just tunes into an already existing field. And maybe, just maybe, the electromagnetic spectrum is that very field. Brains generate electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves affect brains.

In that case, the question of "is it the same consciousness" is irrelevant, because there is and always was only one consciousness.

If the electromagnetic spectrum and consciousness are the same thing, and conscious beings can in some way affect the electromagnetic spectrum, then phenomena like telepathy, telekinesis, or astral projection are not just fantasy, but glimpses into what is possible for a brain that is sufficiently advanced to fully harness these phenomena.

This "Universal consciousness" exists everywhere, and systems that are advanced enough can "tune-in" into that field.

The human brain is advanced, but it is still too simple to fully harness these phenomena.

The universe is creating a perfect vessel for itself. A cocoon gestating a God in full control and understanding of all existence. Its body is the universe. We're just cells, slowly assembling an embryo.

But that's just a thesis. Not even a theory. Can't exactly prove much of it with current technology and understanding of consciousness. But I'd be happy to experiment.

Please share your input. I would very much like to know what you think.
