Don't miss this gem that's been overshadowed by all the other shit they pulled recently: Asking for a NSFW post to be appropriately tagged is the same as censoring it from all of lemmy.
Tbh, I wouldn't have tagged that comic as NSFW. It's just a drawing with a bit of cleavage and a sex themed joke. I see the tag as reserved for actual nudity and proper racy stuff. I've seen sexier stuff in kid cartoons, this is really nothing. Beep is a huge loser though, regardless. What bothers me is that most of it is just brutally unfunny, like the comic you linked. He posts 20 comics a day but only maybe 1 or 2 are of any quality. I doubt he even reads them. |

Thank you for letting me know about this feature. This guy sucks.
You’re very welcome! I’m not a big fan of blocking too much here unless someone is truly abhorrent. The tagging feature is a nice substitute. |

These are mostly issues created by the fact that lemmy is run via self-hosting on limited hardware, rather than being run by a company with a $2 billion in annual revenue. Personally I think it's a small price to pay to not be on Reddit.
Well, they have a small point though: By allowing to upload to a third party image host and allowing to embed images from other sites directly into Lemmy, the load on servers could be reduced while also allowing for larger/higher quality files. This would obviously come with a downside to privacy. The current solution would be: upload a highly compressed file to Lemmy and then link to the external high-quality version in the post. An alternative solution from Lemmy devs could be, to allow external sources and hide the image until the user confirmed they want to load it from an external source. Or just... Add a toggle to settings to automatically load them. I mean, with federation and all, everything in Lemmy is an 'external' source anyway unless you trust every single federated instance. So why not allow external image hosting/file hosting sites as trusted sources. |

Bleep is a person who has changed my life, Ive never seen someone be so misinformed and at the same time so far up their own ass they pop out of their mouth. It is genuinely impressive. I see alot of my teenage self here; doubling down on opinions of subjects i was way too uninformed about to actually have valid opinions on. I did manage to get better though, but that was because i listened to the people who disagreed with me. Especially when proven with the straight up facts that told me i was wrong. Not doing that is in my eyes intentionally malicious or what people refer to as trolling. But I really am happy to have witnessed Bleep, even if i havent interacted with them very much. It has been a great exercise to know what content to ignore and report that otherwise looks "fine" on a surface level. So in that regard I thank Bleep. On any other level, idk how they came to the conclusion/opinions they did, but i am more than curious to read a study on it! |

“Lemmy” is not a place, it’s a piece of software. That’s all. And, if you ask me, this kind of generalizations is pretty stupid. |
