I think you are misremembering. I triple checked and there is nothing in the German Manual for rear door release in a 2020 Model 3. Here is a German YouTuber showing how you can make your Tesla safer by adding a pull to the hidden door release. https://youtube.com/shorts/QFLq7-wIGCo

I've been planning to go down to the basement where the car lives to check, but haven't been that way yet. I'll let you know. I guess it's possible that I just assumed the back would be like the front because why the fuck wouldn't it be. But then again, Elon.

Yeah, although I don't know about puncturing the battery so much as destroying the rest of the stuff under there. The battery is armored and isn't supposed to catch fire because of its chemistry. I drive it on paved roads and really compacted dirt roads but definitely avoid potholes and sand. The Atto 3 has higher clearance but it wasn't available when I bought my car and is still RWD now AWD w...

I'm just repeating what I'm told unfortunately.

And yeah, my next car I want to be an EV. An EV jimny would be perfect, but I doubt they'd ever exist

You are misremembering. Here are two more German videos specifically labeled Model 3. https://youtube.com/shorts/4_nlw-hk-8A?is=XE5xl9olG1h1zLvy https://youtu.be/itiE8rhQSng?is=xtkl6YXCelQ54Cmu There is no manual rear door release on the door handle like the front doors have.

Wow you are absolutely right, no emergency release in the back. I had to actually go touch it.

I apologize for my ignorance, thank you for forcing me to know, I will figure out how to add these release handles.

Still the best car I have ever driven. Fucking Nazi ruins everything.

I'm not sure. I think they were reacting to buyers, not the other way around. I remember the late 90s and early 2000s. SUVs and crossovers were relatively new and exploding in popularity. Partly as a back lash against the "soccer mom" minivan stereotype. I never liked them, but I also never liked sedans. I'm definitely a wagon guy. It's sad that they all became crossovers.

The last 5-10 years have been primarily reacting to buyers (and choosing not to market sedans more) but there was a specific concerted push to change market opinions toward SUVs and SUV-like vehicles, so I'm inclined to instead blame marketing with a healthy sprinkling of availability.

The last time I bought a sedan I really had to go out of my way to find the only one on the lot that happened to be in my budget and in my desired age/mileage/mechanical shape, and I happened to test drive all 5 sedans that they had on that lot. If I were indifferent towards the body/chasis style I probably never would've looked at the sedans just by pure math of there being easily a hundred or more SUVs, a smattering of trucks and vans and that was about it
