Do they still qualify as nerds if they’re the antithesis to the morals in the story they nerdrd over?

Honestly, good question. Does having to be an X nerd mean you should agree with the morals of X and if you become a millionaire, does that invalidate nerddom?

Or like they could just design robot dogs.

Then they lose the dog hack. It's both a police officer and a genetically modified wolf. If the police officer is biting you, then you need to stop resisting. What kind of monster would hurt a dog just doing its job.

If you’re the one supporting ripping up the forest of Ents to make room for a datacenter…yes, you lose your nerd card. You are now Saruman, corrupted to the will of evil to further one’s own power.

Oh GREAT. Self replicating war machines. Hopefully they are too incompetent to do anything productive.

They'll require an army of trainers and vets for their numerous behavioral and genetic problems.

Damn, I didn't know about that. Guess I have a new rabbit hole to inspect.

Looked into it and it doesn't really seem like mysterious circumstances. From the article I read, he was struck by a car that was already fleeing police while he was crossing a crosswalk.

After selling to facebook he got flack. And then became an open supporter of Trump. He became hated. My guess is that he's a narcissist similar to Elon Musk, so him hearing himself called a looser and asshole (like he is) triggers him to be worse. To go "I'll show him". To do a nazi salute or you know, engineer dogs for war to oppress people more efficiently. Any supporter of Trump is obviously...

The likelyhood of him reading comments like this is incredibly low whereas other random people may come across it and not have any idea about how terrible he has shown himself to be. So I think talking about him like this is a net positive.

Edit: I don't think him getting flack caused him to change to be the person he is today, if anything getting massive amounts of money freed him to be more open about who he truly is inside. Maybe catching flack online also helped him in taking off the mask so to say.

Guy looks like a total fucking tool bag. Looks like the kind of asshole that would come to a meeting in flip flops and pick his fucking toes the whole time. Also, I feel like I can smell his photo.

You can since his sexual assault conviction record through the camera.

No. A nerd is a nerd, but they can be socialized in optimal and suboptimal ways.

Don't feed them for three days, and release 100 of them into the White House, and barricade the doors.

They will die of silicone poisoning.

They're not looking to make a better dog, they're looking to make a patentable dog.

And the precedent's already set by big ag companies patenting genetically modified crops.

It's way cheaper to make an animal go blow itself up rather than build an entire robot to go get blown up.

"resisting" while actively being harmed/injured is and always will be a sadistic joke.

"stop resisting!" while I break you shoulder. Nice.

This is the same Colossal Biosciences which has been outright lying about recreating extinct species to drum up cash from investors. And when you look at some of the stuff they're pretending to do for this goal, e.g. artificial eggshells for dodos, it is quite obvious they have ulterior intentions.

He looks like a dumb fuck, how do investors see him and say yes give him 200 million? How do I get investors in my businesss? I can bullshit too.

Not if you just buy the cheapest parts and then harden the software and send a fuck load of them out there at once. Just as expendable as real dogs

Well, ackshually, it was zee Germans who first called them that. But yea, USMC does have a lot of masturbatory lore

It was an American propagandist claiming the Germans called them that, there is no record and no primary source account of any such term being used by the Germans to describe American Marines.

These fucking techbros are louder and trying to normalize unethical behavior under this regime being asked to remove regulation from all of their activities.

That is what a corporate dystopia really is. Laws for all but not for them.

$200,000,000 to get dogs into war who will be killed by some $20 drone with a bomb

If they can make 10,000,000 attack dogs to get blow up by those drones, and somehow avoid having any variable costs, then the dogs will be cheaper than the drones.

I think that's within a practical scale.

But we already have robodogs. Boston Dynamics has been soft-launching them for years, innoculating the masses into adoring them & accepting them before unveiling their full wrathful capabilities. Why breed & abuse living creatures when we already have terrifying robots to do bloodshed for us?

Which frankly speaking is baffling since even the fucking Romans considered their war dogs as something of a necessity and not as a prestige thing. Like they gave those hounds and their masters a tonne of respect which was often times worth more than gold in Roman society.

Baffling is the new normal. I didn't believe that the world would spiral into a cyberpunk dystopia.

Life used to be so optimistic. I know there were issues in the aughties and nineties, but God damn, we were so hopeful of the future.

Chocolate feed stations isn't a bad idea. At the amount of investment they are getting and the scale that would justify it, they don't intend all of these dogs to have 1:1 handlers.

I assume he's going to show up with a Bully XL so inbred that it's got a 6 month live expectancy. And this dog is going to be sold to the military for $40M/ea.

Because billionaires are bored sycophants with zero empathy.

I can't think of a reasonable scenario where, even given the drones are in short supply, dogs would be a necessary target over higher priority like the dog handlers. Maybe if you strap a bunch of bombs onto the dogs, but that would be really fucked

I'm lucky to be young enough to not have experienced such hope, mostly cause it was an empty illusion from my point of view. Makes doing whats needed a lot easier since you aren't blinded by falsehood, hope is an opium better to have optimism tempered by realism.

for God sake, facebook advised him to do damage control by donating to someone on the opposite side of the political aisle, and he sued them for it! (according to Wikipedia he got at least 100 million out of that).

investors have a mandate they have to follow. if it says "invest N% into AI" they will throw money at anyone who has "ai" in their mission statement. same for "Defense".
